Cycling at Garrigill
Why Garrigill?
Ideally situated for cycling in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Garrigill offers various routes for road cyclists and mountain bikers of all abilities. It is the halfway point of the celebrated C2C cycle route and just 3 miles from the route of the Pennine Cycleway as it passes through Leadgate on its way to Alston.
Road cyclists will experience some of the highest roads in England including the joint highest at Killhope Cross, some 2,056 feet. Mountain bikers can go one better by conquering the Corpse Road which follows the route of the Pennine Way bridleway up Cross Fell to a height of 2,575 feet. If you need a break or shelter from the weather, the route passes Greg's Hut, no not a handy sandwich outlet but in fact the highest bothy in England at 2,300ft.
So why not make Garrigill your cycling holiday destination? Stay at a Garrigill B&B, holiday cottage, bunkroom or campsite. Obtain your essentials from the village shop.
